A Place for Making; Making Work and Making Connections
What is Desa?
Founded by artists, DESA is a space that cultivates a community of care and curiosity. The artist-residency program supports the expanded practices and artistic research from people of diverse backgrounds and disciplines. We view artistic production as an expanded cross-disciplinary practice that promotes dialogues between the visual arts, craft, writing, film, music, performance and education. The participants working across these diverse practices are afforded the time and space to further explore and experiment in their fields, free of expectations.
DESA is located in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia, in a stunning and quiet location conducive to reflection and artistic production yet only twenty minutes from the centre of Ubud. The DESA facilities consist of self-contained private residences with studios.
DESA is founded upon a principle of making, making work and making connections. DESA actively supports practice, conversations and reflection for positive global social impact. We invite people from across the world to share a table. The artist-in-residence program is an instrument to further generate engagement, collaboration and exchange in the Southeast Asia region.
